Who were the real people behind the characters of Louisa May Alcott’s famous 1868 novel? How much were the fictional Marches based on the actual lives of Bronson and Abigail Alcott, and their daughters Anna, Louisa, Elizabeth and May? What prompted Louisa to write this book, and why is it still so beloved?
The latest film adaptation of Little Women, directed by Greta Gerwig, combines the actual writing of the book with the story itself. If you have seen this movie, you probably wondered what was fact and what was fiction. Owner of New England Heritage Tours and Talks and Masters of Art in English candidate from Worcester State University, Joan Spinazola will answer these questions as she is an expert on Louisa May Alcott as well as other Concord authors. Joan will also share Louise May Alcott’s Framingham connection. It is not necessary to have seen the movie/read the book to attend this program. Appropriate for ages 10 and older – Joan encourages children who love to read.
