Damianos Publishing will host a book signing with author Fred Wallace on Friday, April 24 from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Town Historian Fred Wallace tackles the history of Cushing Hospital, a complex built in Framingham during World War II for the U.S. Army, in his latest book Pushing for Cushing in War and Peace.
Relying heavily on in-person interviews, Wallace reconstructs its wartime history and how, in peacetime, it became a leader in the field of geriatric medicine. The hospital was a fixture in Framingham between 1943 and 1991. The site of the former hospital is now Cushing Memorial Park. The only remaining structure left is Cushing Chapel.
Wallace’s book was published by Damianos Publishing.
Friday night, Wallace will autograph copies of his book at Damianos Photography & Publishing inside the Bancroft Building as part of the 22nd Annual Fountain Street Open Studios. Book will be available for purchase too, Friday night.
The 96-page paperback book is priced at $16.95 and features black & white photographs.
Wallace, who also serves as chair of the Framingham Historical Commission, has been conducting research on local history for 20 years as an associate of the Framingham History Center.
Wallace, previously, wrote two books on the life and military service of Major General George H. Gordon.
The Framingham History Center will hold a book party on May 3 for Pushing for Cushing in War and Peace.
In mid-May the book can be purchased online at SilverStreetMedia.com.
