The Dennison archive donation

The Dennison Company recently donated it’s entire corporate archive to the Framingham History Center.  Trained volunteers, under the direction of FHC Curator Dana Dauterman Ricciardi, have spent weeks sorting through original documentation, product samples, photographs and more… a project that has been educational, enlightening, daunting and fun for all involved.  Here’s what retired Framingham teacher, author and longtime FHC volunteer Pat Lavin has to say about the project:

“The Civil War letters stole my heart, now the Dennison legacy has filled me with wonder and curiosity.  What a treasure trove!  It feels like an honor to have this once in a lifetime opportunity to peruse a family business, which includes not only Dennison’s place in Framingham, but its place in the World. To add interest to all the products the company developed and sold, there are many personal documents and letters from early 1800, almost to the present day. We are getting to know the many different business partners, employees and family members by name.  Each piece of paper is precious and adds something unique to the story. Our days have been filled with more surprises and discoveries than could be imagined. I’m so impressed with the material and how carefully the Dennison’s early historians cared for it.   What great possibilities these materials have!”
