What was happening in Framingham during the tumultuous years of the 1960s and early 1970s? In response to war, assassinations and violent protests Framingham ACTION organized a Vietnam Peace Action Day march from Bowditch Field to the Memorial Building (10/15/69).  Inspired by Eugene McCarthy and the many local residents working for his campaign, Mary Murphy’s “People’s Lobby” campaign promised to close the gap between “what we say and what we do” in the State Legislature.  Reaction to a story in “The Issue” – a Framingham North “underground” student newspaper – led to the creation of the Framingham Forum on Social Change attracting speakers like Margaret Mead, Noam Chomsky and Dick Gregory over the course of three years.

Come hear from and about leaders of these local movements in a panel presentation followed by your own memories, thoughts, and questions.  Panelists, who are still activists, include:

Paul A. Fideler – Professor Emeritus of History &  Humanities, Lesley University
Elizabeth F. Fideler, EdD – Center on Aging & Work, Boston College Research Fellow
Judy Riegelhaupt – Political Activist & Framingham School Committee Member 1970-1973
Annie Murphy – Executive Director, Framingham History Center
