FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham History Center will host a grand opening celebration Sunday, April 23 for its permanent Civil War exhibition in Framingham’s Civil War memorial building.
The exhibit will be housed at the Edgell Memorial Library at 2 Vernon Street. The exhibit will open to the public at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
With a recent increase in exhibit space and the discovery of significant artifacts, this exhibit fully documents Framingham’s important role in the Civil War, said the Center.
Discoveries include a bronze plaque honoring General George Gordon, clothing from the era, and more stories from the battlefield and home front.
This free event will include a marching drill for children, an honor and color guard ceremony including a rifle volley, and music from Shades of Gray: Civil War Era Camp Band.
Following the exhibit unveiling, attendees can be the first to download and try the new Framingham History Center app featuring In the Footsteps of a Civil War Hero: A Walking Tour of General Gordon’s Framingham on the Centre Common.
The app is professionally narrated by Framingham’s David O’Leary, with Magic106.7.
The new Framingham History Center app was made possibly by grants from the Impact Framingham, Framingham Cultural Council, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
