Conversation with the Curator: Phebey’s Bill of Sale

Sometimes the most powerful objects are also the most challenging. This 1764 bill of sale for Phebey, an enslaved 2 year-old, is one of the most challenging and emotionally evocative objects in the FHC’s collection. How do we as a community grapple with the evidence of enslavement and oppression in Framingham? When we look at the past with clarity, how does it inform our present? Join FHC Curator Stacen Goldman for an active discussion about the significance of this object and the strong emotions it evokes. We encourage participants to view our virtual exhibit and come prepared to talk, ask questions, and learn.
