Co-created by the Framingham History Center and members of the Nipmuc Community. Generously funded by the Framingham Cultural Council.
Join us for an insightful and interactive walk that explores the past and present of the Nipmuc Community. Led by Shani Turner and Maria Turner of the Nipmuc Community, this special “Hike through History” will provide insight into the ongoing traditions and connections of the vibrant Nipmuc community today.
About our Guides:
Maria Turner is a member of the Nipmuc Community. She holds a Master Degree in Education and Counseling. Maria recently retired from the Department of Children and Families and currently serves as the Director of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) program for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.
Shani Turner is a member of the Nipmuc Community. Shani is very active in her community and has organized several Wampanoag Week celebrations for Mashpee schools. She also performs traditional blanket dances with the Eastern Woodland Dancers.
