Please join us for the grand opening of our permanent Civil War exhibition in Framingham’s Civil War memorial building. With a recent increase in exhibit space and the discovery of significant artifacts, this exhibit fully documents Framingham’s important role in the Civil War. Discoveries include a bronze plaque honoring General George Gordon, clothing from the era, and more stories from the battlefield and home front. This free event will include a marching drill for children, an honor and color guard ceremony including a rifle volley, and music from Shades of Gray: Civil War Era Camp Band.
Following these events, be the first to download and try our new Framingham History Center app featuring In the Footsteps of a Civil War Hero: A Walking Tour of General Gordon’s Framingham on the Centre Common. We are so excited to launch this free self-guided version of one of our most popular tours with historic images, professional narration, and location-aware tour stops. We’ll provide a demonstration of how to download and use the app (suitable for iPhone and Android) before you set out for an afternoon walk that will forever change how you look at this iconic space.
