Description
RUSTIC BRIDGE, SIMPSON'S DRIVE The mounted sepia print shows a waterway with a small bridge in background, and trees on either side. Simpson's Pond, also known as "the Barney," (slang for a noisy quarrel) was on the north side of Water Street. The bridges and walks were put in by Michael Simpson, proprietor of the Saxonville Mills, for the pleasure of his workers and their families. In the 1940s, the Pond was filled in and developed as the Pinefield Shopping Center.
