| WATER WORKS The mounted sepia print shows a small brick building on the causeway in a lake. Railroad tracks can be seen in the foreground. Heading west on Waverly Street (Rt. 135) from Framingham's downtown, looking north to Farm Pond, one can see the brick gate house constructed in the 1870s when water from Farm Pond and the Sudbury River water were diverted to supply the pipelines to Boston. When the Quabin Reservoir replaced Framingham waterways in the 1930s as Boston's primary water source, the function of the building became strictly decorative. |
