Description
ODD FELLOWS HALL The mounted sepia print shows a three-story building with a mansard roof and shops on the ground floor. Signs on the side of the building read: "J. A. Higgins, Hardware, Paints & Oils;" "Sprague & Williams, Groceries, Flour & Grain; " "E. A. Holbrook, Boys, Girls', Ladies Goods." On the front of the building: "Cash Store" and "Shoe Store." Odd Fellows Hall in 1880 was only four years old and had no neighbors on Hollis Street. By 1980, it had been remodeled (1928) and flanked by the Eames Building (Clough's Pharmacy) and the Trowbridge Block (Elm Furniture). The mansard roof and ornate trim had been removed, giving the building a more contemporary appearance.
