Description UNION BUILDING

Across from the depot, the Union Block was a three story wooden business building in 1880, housing the Framingham Gazette, J.C. Clark & Co. Steam Printing, Moses Wood, Watchmaker, G.C. Travis, Jr. Law Office, F.M. Esty's Insurance Office, the Railroad Advertising Co., and the Framingham Wheel Works.

The Union Building survived to 1980 as Framingham's only surviving wooden business block, although without its third floor. The 1980 storefronts include a liquor store, H. Perron & Son Locksmith, and the Waverly Tap. In the early 1980s it was renovated by Lew Horton, who set up his sporting goods store there (and also restored the railroad depot). The photo at upper left was taken about 1983, after restoration.
