Description
DANFORTH HILL, FROM SIMPSON'S BARN The mounted sepia print shows a view from a hillside, with gravestones in the foreground, and buildings in the distance beyond a stand of trees. An overview of Saxonville village, which showed so much detail in 1880, is almost totally screened by trees in 1980. Only the tall smokestack of the mill, at the left, can be seen in both pictures, although it is not the same smokestack. At the right in the 1880 view can be seen the steeple of the new Methodist church and the cupola of the Saxonville High School. Now both the steeple and the high school are gone. The old Methodist church is in the lower-left, on the former Church Street.
