Description
SAXONVILLE AND SIMPSON'S POND, FROM WEST SIDE The mounted sepia print shows a body of water with buildings, notably a long three-story apartment complex at right, with the chimney of a factory just to its left. Moving further north up Water Street and looking back, the view is of the mill pond. Again, the smokestack is the only landmark common to both pictures. The long building at the right was built just four years before the 1880 view by Michael Simpson as factory worker housing. It still stands, although hidden behind the brush in the 1980 view taken from the back parking lot of the White Hen Pantry convenience store.
