Description WAYSIDE INN

The Wayside Inn is in Sudbury, near the Framingham line. Built as an extension of David Howe's family home in 1716, the inn and tavern served travelers along the Old Boston Post Road. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow visited Howe's tavern in 1862, and the following year published his "Tales of a Wayside Inn." In 1923 Henry Ford purchased the inn with the idea of creating a living history museum. The Inn, still a stopping place for diners and travelers, is now governed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The Wayside Inn image is not included in the "Framingham Centre 1880-1980" study.
