Description
HIGH AND PRIMARY SCHOOLS The mounted sepia print shows two buildings behind row of trees along the edge of Framingham Centre Common. At left is a two or three-story clapboarded building; at right a stone Greek revival building with stone-faced pillars. In 1880, the old Framingham Academy building was a primary school and Framingham's first public high school was next to it. In 1908, a new high school was built downtown (occupied by the Danforth Museum in 1980). The old building (on the left in the print) was moved to Central Square (known as the Gordon Building in 1980), and a new elementary school called the Jonathan Maynard School built in its place. The old Framingham Academy, which had served as a public elementary school, was then turned over to the Framingham Historical Society.
