SUMMARY:Art & the Family Archive | Collage as Protest and Portraiture with Ileana Doble Hernandez
DESCRIPTION:Date: Saturday, July 26, 2:00 – 3:30 PM\nEvent: Artist Talk and Workshop\nCost: FREE\n\nGenerously funded by the Framingham Cultural Council. \n\nFramingham-based artist Ileana Doble Hernandez invites you to reflect on the use of collage as a way to resist and explore our current socio-political situation, as well as a form of personal portrayal. You’ll have time to create a small collage piece! We’ll provide blank paper, scissors, and magazines for clipping. You’re also welcome to bring your own magazines. Other materials like newspapers, discarded books, or copies of photographs also make great sources for collage.\n\nPollage (Political + Collage) is a series of hand-made collages and their lightbox counterparts, created by the artist during the pandemic as a way to escape screens by subscribing to magazines and intuitively clipping resonant imagery. Over time, these selections revealed subconscious influences from the media she consumed, forming what she calls her “scrolling experience”—a visual reflection of fragmented information, cultural translation, and societal critique. The collages, later transformed into thin lightboxes resembling tablets, echo both personal and political narratives, continuing a lineage of political collage rooted in the Dada movement and the work of Hannah Höch.\n\nFHC Members, use discount code. For questions or more information please contact Claudia Ruiz, FHC Programs Manager at claudia@framinghamhistory.org\n\n\n
